Low octaves, carefully placed rests, and small rising figures create a restrained opening. The music becomes more connected and briefly intensifies before settling into a quiet transition that leads directly into the finale.Opening gestures: In 6/8, the left hand places low octaves beneath short right-hand figures that rise out of the middle register. Tenuto marks give weight to individual notes, while rests separate the gestures. The opening is marked very softly with una corda. Chromatic notes and changing chord shapes alter the harmony without replacing the slow underlying pulse. As the line rises, the music gains strength through crescendos, accented notes, and overlapping phrases.Connected middle passage: The upper part develops a longer line while the lower part moves through eighth notes and broken intervals. Short crescendos and sforzando accents interrupt the quieter sound. The texture then returns to elements of the opening, including low octaves and isolated upper notes, before climbing again. On the second page, right-hand octaves stand above quick lower figures. These rapid notes add movement within the slow tempo rather than turning the passage into a separate fast section.Transition to the finale: The intensity falls away through shorter upper figures and a decrescendo. Quiet single notes remain above closely spaced lower chords, rests, and pedal markings. A small slowing prepares the final harmonies, but the ending points forward instead of providing a long, independent close.Interesting fact: The score explicitly marks “attacca subito il Rondo” at the end: the Rondo is to begin immediately. In this edition, its opening is printed on the same page as the Introduzione’s final lines. How to earn points for this piece:Download or purchase the sheet music.Practice the piece carefully.
