Clementi sustains this contrast between a busy surface and broad harmonic movement throughout the piece.\r\nThe upper pattern repeatedly leaps upward and falls back through neighboring tones, shifting its shape as the harmonies change. Below it, long notes expand into intervals and chords, occasionally forming a more independent melodic line. Chromatic sequences and dynamic swells give the continuing pattern direction without interrupting its flow.
