“Joy To The World (Second Version),” arranged by Polly Bekasova, is a lively advanced piano setting of the familiar Christmas hymn. Marked Allegro, this version keeps the recognizable melody within a continuously active texture, using repeated-note figures, chordal writing, short rhythmic gestures, and changes of register. The arrangement develops the hymn through several related sections rather than presenting it as a straightforward four-part setting. The four-page score reaches measure 80 and maintains its energetic character while introducing brief moments of sustained and more spacious writing before the final return of the main material. Measures 1–19 introduce the arrangement at Allegro. The familiar melody is established immediately, with repeated accompaniment figures creating a steady rhythmic pulse underneath and around the tune. The opening texture is compact but active, setting up the characteristic sound of this arrangement. Measures 20–37 continue the main material with the melody moving through a fuller piano texture. Repeated figures and changes in register add variety while the recognizable melodic shape remains prominent. The passage continues the forward motion of the opening rather than introducing a completely contrasting theme. Measures 38–61 form the central portion of the arrangement. The score continues to alternate between active repeated-note writing and more sustained chordal material. The melody is presented in different registers, and the accompaniment becomes particularly full in places, giving this section greater weight than the opening. Measures 62–79 bring the arrangement toward its conclusion. The familiar melodic material returns within the established rhythmic texture, with repeated figures and chordal sonorities continuing to drive the music forward. The final measures use longer sustained notes and closing chords to give the piece a clear, decisive ending. Interesting fact: Although “Joy to the World” is traditionally associated with George Frideric Handel, the familiar melody known as “Antioch” was not simply taken from a Handel composition.
