First published: unknown. Completeness: unknown.Op. 176, No. 4 builds a flowing C-major texture from broken chords and broad, sustained notes. Its initially quiet motion grows into a bright, expansive ending. Measures 1–8 place the rippling eighth notes in the upper voice over a slower bass. Measures 9–16 move the same kind of figure below a long-note melody, ending with a brief chromatic link. Measures 17–23 recall the opening. From measure 24, both voices move in eighth notes; repeated lower patterns support an upper line that climbs through successive registers to the strong final chord. Interesting fact: The ending combines the two textures previously heard separately: both hands share the broken-chord motion at once.
