First published: unknown. Completeness: unknown.Türk’s Gigue is a flowing E-major dance in 6/8. Long upper phrases move over a much more sparsely written bass, with short chromatic notes adding color along the way. After the upbeat, measures 1–8 introduce descending eighth notes, longer dotted notes, and a rising answer. The lower voice often waits before entering, so its appearances stand out. Measures 9–16 restate this opening span and alter its ending. The melody’s longer arcs return, with a stronger high point before the phrase closes. The second section starts with another upbeat and a higher descent, then develops a sequence of rising and falling figures. In the closing passage, an ascending scale is answered twice; the final bass line supplies the last upward motion after the melody has settled. Interesting fact: Although a gigue often suggests continuous movement, this one repeatedly leaves the bass silent for substantial parts of a measure.
