First published: unknown. Completeness: unknown.Melody opens Schumann's Album for the Young with a quiet C-major song above a flowing broken-chord accompaniment. Its gently descending phrases create an unhurried, intimate character. The opening theme falls step by step before turning upward in a short answer. A contrasting phrase reaches higher and introduces darker harmonic color, after which the original melody returns with added inner notes. These ideas recur over the same steady accompaniment and settle into a soft C-major close. Interesting fact: the accompaniment continues moving even where the upper melody pauses, keeping the song's flow intact between its phrases.
