First published: unknown. Completeness: unknown.Berens’s Swedish Dance is a brief, buoyant dance in 2/4. Short melodic gestures, emphatic accents, and an alternating accompaniment give it a distinctly rhythmic profile. Measures 1–4 repeat a two-measure idea: clipped rising notes lead to an accented longer note. The lower part alternates paired notes with a higher single tone. Measures 5–6 interrupt that pattern with a descending melody and a longer upper note. A chromatic lower neighbor adds a quick flash of color before the phrase continues. Measures 7–10 move through a lower, quieter-looking stretch of the melody, recall the descending gesture, and finish with repeated notes and a final accent. The repeat sign brings back the complete dance. Interesting fact: Berens was born in Germany but built his career in Sweden; ‘Swedish Dance’ is therefore a particularly apt title within his piano collection.
