The opening song moves above sustained and slowly shifting harmonies. A quicker middle section replaces this with interlocking figures in both hands, becoming more insistent and building to a strong peak. The opening tempo and melody return, then climb higher before a long descending line carries the music into a subdued, lingering close. An interesting detail is the final melodic descent: it crosses a broad span of the keyboard while the accompaniment becomes sparse, leaving the falling line especially exposed.
