First published: unknown. Completeness: unknown.A Theme is a slow, intensely expressive miniature woven from several overlapping voices. Dotted figures and very short connecting notes give the melody a flexible, ornamented outline, while chromatic harmony keeps its phrases unsettled. Measures 1–8 develop a recurring upward gesture over a steady inner pulse and a bass line tied across the bar. The following section passes related figures between registers, expands their range, and introduces brief pauses and ornamental turns. The opening rhythm returns near the end, and the final alternate ending slows into a suspended, quiet close. Interesting fact: Although the music is in 2/4, tied bass notes and overlapping phrases often blur the bar line, making the little theme sound more continuous than its meter suggests.
