Measures 23–39 give the melody longer running passages and a lighter, more even shape. Measures 40–55 return to the first strain’s rhythm and melodic figures. Measures 56–72 change to B-flat major, with a new theme that moves between chordal accents and flowing notes. Measures 73–88 continue in B-flat major with a more continuous, buoyant melody, higher notes, and repeated rhythmic figures before the final second ending.
