The rapid pattern transfers to the lower register beneath a singing upper line and grows into denser chromatic counterpoint (mm. 17–30). The opening texture returns through a succession of harmonic changes (mm. 31–46), after which both hands join in compact double-note figuration (mm. 47–50) and descending broken chords diminish into a soft B-major cadence (mm. 51–56).
