First published: unknown. Completeness: unknown.Fuchs’s Bogeyman, Op. 32, No. 6, is a brisk, strongly marked character piece in E minor. Repeated detached notes, sudden accents, and short chordal interruptions give its opening a persistent, prowling energy. The first phrases alternate repeated notes with quick curling figures. Wider leaps and added inner notes broaden the melody, but the clipped pulse continues through the changing harmonies. In the later section, the two parts increasingly move together, building through a strong crescendo into forceful chords and octave motion. Separated final gestures lead to an emphatic held chord.Interesting fact: the ending changes the opening’s continuous patter into widely spaced, accented chords with rests between them, making the final arrival sound especially imposing.
