Moving treble phrases alternate with sustained chords while the bass supplies separated notes and chord accents. Chromatic bass notes and a rising melody colour measures 13–16; the lower line becomes more active in measures 17–19 before the first and second endings in measures 20–21. Measures 22–38 broaden the texture with held right-hand chords over rising left-hand figures. In measures 27–29, a sustained bass supports a moving inner part. Fuller treble chords and small grace-note pairs follow in measures 30–33, then descending chord shapes lead to the alternate endings in measures 37–38. The final strain, measures 39–55, changes to G major with a one-sharp signature and an ff opening. Offbeat melody notes and dotted-quarter chords sit above the bass pulse, with short single-note passages in measures 42–43 and 46. Held bass tones return beneath inner motion in measures 47 and 50.
