The accompaniment moves between the hands and registers, with short accented responses and a descending phrase at the end of the opening section. Measures 9–16 build through chromatic changes, stronger chord entries and rising dynamics. The running line then descends into the lower register as the sound diminishes. Measures 17–22 renew the upper-hand figuration. Rolled tenths appear in the left hand in measures 18–19, followed by accented chords and another descending response. Measures 23–31 return to the opening material and grow toward a fortissimo passage with a marked ritardando. Measure 31 includes a wide unrolled left-hand chord before the texture begins to soften. Measures 32–42 resume the original tempo with shorter upper phrases. The lower hand carries the flowing figure alongside held bass tones and several descending bass lines.
