Through mm. 3–18, long upper sonorities alternate with chordal replies while the lower figure continues beneath changing harmonies; brief ritardandos interrupt the momentum. Measures 19–38 extend the melody through wider chordal shapes, quieter sustained passages and a lower-register response. At m. 39 the original pulse returns. The upper part alternates held chords, stronger accents and brief silences through m. 55, while the left hand maintains its repeating motion, easing at the marked ritardando in m. 52. Short descending upper replies in mm. 56 and 60 punctuate the final phrases. Measures 61–64 diminish through the last return of the figure, a calando chordal response and a quiet held close.
