In measures 3–10, a sustained upper melody enters with small ascending grace notes while the accompaniment passes between the registers beneath it. Measures 11–16 renew the opening figures and broaden the melodic replies. The more active high phrase in measure 17 leads into a crescendo through measures 19–22, where upper dyads and fuller bass intervals strengthen the texture. The rising and descending eighth-note passage in measures 23–24 briefly clears the accompaniment away. The melody returns in measures 25–30 with its grace-note entries and softly sustained upper notes. Measures 31–35 bring the voices into closer contact. Inner notes move beneath a held upper tone, and the left hand takes on a more melodic line over a tied bass. From measure 36, the arpeggio replies become shorter and fade under the perdendosi instruction, leaving rests before the final rolled forte chord in measure 40.
