In mm. 1–8, held upper harmonies alternate with dotted chordal phrases over short rising and falling lower figures. Measures 9–15 lighten the upper texture to paired notes and shape a sequence of gently answering phrases. A crescendo in mm. 16–17 leads to a quieter return in mm. 18–25, with a more flowing upper response in m. 21 and a ritardando at m. 25. Più animato begins in m. 26: stronger chords, detached lower figures and more active upper movement carry the music through m. 33. Measures 34–43 renew the quieter paired-note phrases and then rebuild the chordal intensity. The opening material returns in mm. 44–51, with another flowing upper reply in m. 47. The final ritardando settles into the closing chord and descending bass in m. 52.
