“Ding Dong Merrily On High (Second Version),” arranged by Polly Bekasova, is a lively, fast-moving advanced piano arrangement of the familiar Christmas carol. Marked Allegro, this version emphasizes continuous rhythmic motion and repeated accompaniment patterns rather than a simple hymn-like presentation. The melody is embedded in a fuller texture, with short repeated figures, chordal writing, rests, and register changes creating a bright, energetic character. The three-page arrangement develops the tune through several related passages and builds toward a firm closing section. Measures 1–22 introduce the arrangement at Allegro. The familiar melody is presented within an active texture, with repeated rhythmic figures providing much of the motion. Short rests and recurring note patterns help articulate the phrases while the harmony supports the recognizable tune. Measures 23–39 continue the main material with a similar rhythmic language. The score uses repeated figures and short, clearly defined gestures, while the melody moves through different registers. The accompaniment remains active rather than settling into a simple block-chord texture. Measures 40–53 develop the carol further. The texture continues to alternate between repeated-note figures and more sustained harmonic writing. The passage maintains the Allegro character while using changes in register and rhythmic activity to distinguish it from the opening. Measures 54–end form the closing section. The arrangement returns to the familiar melodic material while maintaining the repeated rhythmic figures established earlier. The final measures become more conclusive, ending with sustained closing sonorities rather than simply stopping after another short phrase. Interesting fact: The melody of “Ding Dong! Merrily on High” originally appeared as a sixteenth-century French dance tune called “Branle de l’Official” in Orchésographie, a dance book by Jehan Tabourot, who wrote under the name Thoinot Arbeau.
