Op. 65, No. 4 is a flowing C-major Allegretto in triple meter. Small melodic arches pass above a quiet lower line, with occasional replies emerging from the accompaniment. Measures 1–8 present the main upper figure and let the lower voice answer at the ends of phrases. Measures 9–16 move higher, add chromatic notes, and broaden the lower part into intervals. Measures 17–23 recall and extend the opening. The closing section links longer melodic arches over repeated lower notes, then gathers the texture into fuller final chords. Interesting fact: The lower voice becomes briefly as active as the melody at several phrase endings, turning the accompaniment into an answering voice.
