Its two repeated sections remain closely related while shifting the register and harmony. After the upbeat, the opening phrase repeatedly pairs a falling eighth-note line with a dotted turn back upward. Bass notes on the first beat are followed by fuller accompanying intervals. Toward the end of the opening section, the melody begins higher and falls farther. A dotted figure narrows into a tied note at the cadence, which leads to the first repeat. The second section brings the accompaniment into a higher register and starts the familiar melodic shapes from new pitches. Its last phrase recalls the first section’s longer descent, then resolves the dotted figure into the closing note. Interesting fact: The two sections share much of their melodic vocabulary, but the second changes the accompaniment’s register enough to give the same kind of phrase a different color.
