First published: unknown. Completeness: unknown.Volume 1, No. 7 is a quiet B-flat-major miniature marked Andante compiacevole. Its upper melody floats in longer notes over gently curving groups of three eighth notes. Measures 1–4 set out two balanced melodic exchanges. The upper voice repeatedly leans from a longer note toward a short answer, while the lower voice rises and falls beneath it. Measures 5–6 bring more motion into the melody and gradually reduce the accompaniment’s activity. The two voices become closer to an exchange between equals. Measures 7–8 add a final quick upper gesture over a broken lower figure, then resolve into a brief, quiet ending. Interesting fact: The historical heading compares the piece to the breath of Zephyr, the west wind—a poetic image that matches its pianissimo opening.
