First published: unknown. Completeness: unknown. This little G-major waltz moves in 3/8, with a lively upper line over a restrained single-note accompaniment. Quick turns and changes of melodic direction give the eight-measure piece its animation. The short upbeat leads into measures 1–2, where an ornament-like chromatic turn gives way to a longer note and a downward answer. Measures 3–4 continue with flowing sixteenth notes, first descending and then jumping into a new figure. The lower part remains widely spaced and punctuated by rests. Measures 5–6 alternate repeated notes with a more active bass response. Measures 7–8 gather the upper line into an upward run, then settle onto the final note. Interesting fact: The historical score calls it ‘Ein kleiner Walzer,’ literally ‘A Little Waltz’; its whole dance fits into a single short phrase pair.
