A more emphatic chordal section provides a clear contrast to its Cantabile opening. The opening sixteen measures unfold in balanced phrases, mixing small eighth-note turns with longer melodic arrivals. Brief chromatic changes darken the harmony before the tune returns to its opening character and reaches the point marked Fine. The contrasting eight-measure section uses paired upper notes, detached chords, and stronger accents. A short descending line leads to the Da Capo instruction, which returns the music to the singing opening. Interesting fact: The final written measure is a transition rather than the ending: the actual close occurs at Fine after the opening section returns.
