Important Event is a compact, ceremonial piece in A major, with emphatic chords and a striding bass. Its three-beat pulse, dotted figures, and repeated accents give the music a grand character on a small scale. The opening theme descends through a series of firm chordal gestures. A contrasting passage brings heavier low octaves beneath sustained upper harmonies and repeated chords, building through chromatic shifts. The first theme returns to restore the opening shape and bring the scene to a decisive close. Interesting fact: the title's sense of importance is reflected in the marking Allegro maestoso and in the unusually prominent accents shared by both hands.
