Throughout the piece, each arching figure moves upward from the lower register and answers with a descending group above. Changes of harmony, register, and volume bring variety to the recurring 6/8 pattern; occasional chromatic notes add a darker shade before the familiar G-major material returns and closes with a brief low note. Interesting fact: although the figures frequently pass between the two hands, they form one continuous musical line rather than a melody with a separate accompaniment.
