Norse Song is a compact, chordal piece in F major with a weighty octave bass and a gently uneven melodic rhythm. Chromatic bass notes darken the harmony beneath its restrained opening. Measures 1–8 introduce the short theme and repeat it with altered bass motion. The second section grows stronger, adds a brief ornamented turn, and moves through more varied harmonies before the opening contour returns. The final four measures become very quiet and settle into a broad cadence. Interesting fact: The octave bass changes by semitone in several places, adding harmonic tension beneath a melody that retains its familiar shape.
