Measures 1–20 unfold a quiet chordal melody above broad arpeggiated bass figures, with the inner voices repeatedly filling the space between the melody notes. A vivo middle section begins at measure 21, replacing the opening texture with a more exposed upper line above syncopated chords and short answering figures. The opening tempo returns at measure 32, and the original chordal pattern gradually thickens through measures 41–49. Measures 50–55 rise through chromatic inner lines and fuller chords. Measures 56–60 withdraw to pp, then close with a sustained A-flat-major sonority.
