Measures 31–50 soften into repeated paired notes and longer slurs above a rising bass line, then expand through a crescendo. The denser chromatic motion returns in measures 51–92 and gradually withdraws into separated quiet gestures. Measures 93–116 develop a new pattern of gently slurred two-note chords above broken bass figures, while measures 117–122 gather the motion into a brief rise and a firm D-flat-major close.
