Its expressive melody is threaded with tiny ornamental flourishes, while the lower voices alternate between spacious support and closely woven replies. The opening joins a rising pickup to a gently falling phrase, repeatedly interrupted by rests and sudden accents. Chromatic inflections and quick descending ornaments intensify the conversation, and the bass gradually takes a more active role. Fuller chords create a dramatic central expansion before a fermata opens onto a softer return. In the later phrases, upper ornaments overlap with moving lower lines; the familiar melodic outline settles into a diminishing final cadence. The heading identifies this music as Clementi's own extraction from his four-hand duets, Op. 14, published in London in 1784. The solo texture thus preserves music first conceived for two players.
