Clementi moves from an ornamented, expressive opening into a steady unfolding of interwoven voices. The introduction uses dotted rhythms, sustained inner tones, and brief flourishes before coming to rest at a fermata. The fugue begins in the upper register with long notes followed by a rising figure. Successive entries bring the theme into a fuller texture, while flowing passages connect its appearances through changing harmonies. The middle balances broad held notes against active inner lines and bass responses. After a later pause, the voices resume their exchange, gradually converging on a stronger final cadence and short closing chords. The heading identifies this as the start of a three-piece suite. A separate note above the fugue says it was published in Paris in 1780 and revised and enlarged by the composer for this appearance.
