Marked Vivace non troppo, it combines small turning phrases, repeated two-note gestures, and sudden runs within an expansive musical design. The opening places a gently delayed upper response above a short bass figure. Repeated slurred pairs and broader leaps soon animate the texture, with occasional rapid flourishes connecting the phrases. After a repeated first section, the paired gestures become more insistent and migrate into the lower register while a broader melody sounds above. The opening material returns later, expanded through fuller harmonies and wider registers, and the final build-up ends in emphatic high chords. An interesting feature is the bass's changing role: it first offers short answers, then takes over the repeated paired-note motion while the upper part becomes more sustained, reversing the opening balance.
