Clementi sets sweeping, rapid flourishes against gentle Adagio phrases, creating a spacious, unpredictable design. The opening repeatedly sends a single line upward across the keyboard, then pauses for soft chordal responses. These exchanges expand into longer lyrical passages and ever broader runs. An Allegro assai introduces more regular flowing patterns, with short melodic answers above or below them. Another Adagio interrupts the activity before an Allegrissimo section develops a sustained rush of broken-chord figures through changing harmonies. The final Prestissimo recalls the opening's sweeping gestures and ends on a widely spaced, held sonority. An interesting detail is the notation of the opening flourishes: Clementi groups very long runs across the staves, including one labeled with 28 notes, emphasizing their broad sweep between the slow responses.
