Broad melodic gestures ride above an almost unbroken current of quick notes, giving the movement both sweep and urgency. The opening sets a spacious upper phrase against a rising and falling bass line. Repeated statements move through higher registers, and the melody acquires flourishes, trills, and sharper accents. After the first large section, the same restless motion continues through new harmonic turns before the opening style reappears. Toward the close, both parts become increasingly involved in the running figures, which finally contract into repeated shapes and an abrupt, spare ending. An interesting detail is the ending's economy: after pages of continuous motion, Clementi closes with a short final gesture followed by written rests, allowing the sudden silence to complete the Finale.
