Tchaikovsky’s Song of the Concertina is a quiet G-major song with a gently lilting three-beat accompaniment and a melody shaped from repeated notes and sustained tones. The first phrases place the tune over alternating bass notes and chords. Its return grows fuller and reaches higher before a later passage introduces a more mobile melody and repeated inner chords. The closing phrases become very soft, settling over a persistent low G. An interesting detail is the ending’s sustained and repeated G in the bass: this fixed foundation remains beneath the changing upper voices.
