Its short gestures gradually expand into more flowing phrases. Measures 1–8 introduce the recurring turn above paired bass harmonies. Measures 9–24 carry the idea upward to a brighter, stronger register, then guide it downward toward the cadence. Measures 25–32 vary the rhythm with triplets, detached notes, and dotted figures. Measures 33–40 lengthen the phrases over more sustained accompaniment, giving the melody greater continuity. The last four measures return to the low, gently turning figure. The repeated shape fades under the marking perdendosi before the final interval. Interesting fact: The opening gesture occupies a single measure, but related material later stretches across two-measure phrases, changing the sense of motion without abandoning the original idea.
