“Hedwig’s Theme” is a Level 2A piano arrangement of John Williams’s theme from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. It is written in 3/4 time and begins with a mysterious character before changing to a brighter, faster 4/4 section near the end. The student part uses long slurs, simple single-note motion, held left-hand tones, accidentals, dynamic changes, repeated chord patterns, and a short final melodic figure.
Measures 1–8 introduce the main mysterious theme. The melody moves slowly between the hands, with long slurs and held notes creating the opening magical sound. The left hand supports the phrase with simple bass notes and sustained tones.
Measures 9–16 continue the opening theme with more accidentals and a slightly stronger dynamic. The melody rises into a more intense phrase, then settles into a softer ending on the first page.
Measures 17–24 begin a second statement of the same main idea. The melody returns at mezzo-forte, with the same long-note shape and simple left-hand support. This section continues the mysterious 3/4 character from the opening.
Measures 25–32 build toward the end of the first section. The music grows to forte, then returns to piano with a fermata, creating a clear pause before the final section begins.
