“Burgmüller - Op. 100, No. 5 - Innocence” is a short Romantic piano study with a light, graceful character. The piece is built around small slurred figures, gentle phrase shapes, and clear dynamic contrasts. Even though it is not long, the music has several different textures: a graceful opening idea, a softer leggiero section, and a stronger final phrase.
Measures 1–4 introduce the main character of the piece with a soft, graceful opening marked p grazioso. The right hand uses short slurred figures and stepwise motion, while the left hand supports with simple chord tones and bass notes.
Measures 5–8 repeat and develop the opening idea with a crescendo and stronger accents. The music briefly becomes more dramatic before relaxing again with a diminuendo.
