The opening pickup and measures 1-8 begin Moderato marziale in 2/4 with rapid paired runs in the lower register. Repeated low notes and rests interrupt the rising and falling figures, which climb into a higher register before short repeated notes and a held upper note close the introduction.

Measures 9-32 present the melody in upper octaves and chords above separate bass notes, chords and flowing lower figures. Dotted replies, short ornaments and descending phrases alternate with broader held harmonies. Repeated lower octaves support an accented chord phrase marked marcato.

Measures 33-85 return to the melody with fuller chord responses, chromatic lower figures and short ornamental replies. At measure 59, a more compact upper chord phrase leads into slurred figures and descending intervals, followed by renewed dotted phrases and held harmonies over flowing lower octaves.

Measures 86-93 close with a held chord and a rising chord passage marked fuocoso at measure 87. High-register paired figures and repeated chords descend toward lower chord responses and a held final harmony.
