Measures 1-13 begin Maestoso in common time, with upper chords, rising short-note figures and slurred replies. Flowing lower octaves accompany the melody, alternating with descending single-note lines and separated bass notes. The upper line develops through paired-note figures, ornaments and short chordal responses.

Measures 14-28 broaden the range of the chordal melody while the lower part moves through chromatic octave figures. Dotted upper chords and fuller accented phrases alternate with shorter slurred replies. High octave passages expand the upper register before the accompaniment returns to its earlier flowing figures.

Measures 29-40 return to the opening chordal phrases, rising figures and descending lower replies. Slurred upper patterns and a trill lead into the closing passage. Measures 37-40 finish with a rapid rising figure, a descending upper line, pesante chord attacks and a held final harmony.
