“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” is arranged here as an advanced piano solo with a bright Christmas hymn character and a strong four-page build. Since this is my arrangement, I kept the melody clear, but expanded the setting with changing meters, broken left-hand motion, repeated chord textures, wide keyboard spacing, and a large final section with full two-hand chords.

Measures 1–25 present the main hymn material in a fairly open texture. The opening begins with strong chordal writing, then moves into the melody with broken accompaniment patterns underneath. The meter shifts between 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4, which gives the phrase shape more flexibility than a plain four-part hymn setting.

Measures 26–44 move into the first big chordal build. The right hand uses repeated chords and thicker harmony while the left hand supports with bass notes and steady rhythmic motion. This section gives the arrangement more drive and weight, moving away from the lighter opening texture.

Measures 45–52 create a short transition back into broader hymn writing. The texture becomes more vertical, with stronger chord attacks and a more grounded bass line. This section prepares the final page by making the arrangement feel larger and more direct.

Measures 53–65 form the final large statement. Both hands use repeated block chords, wide spacing, and fuller harmonies across the keyboard. The final measures push upward into an 8va ending, giving the arrangement a bright, triumphant close.

Interesting fact: “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” has a strong connection to film and television Christmas tradition. It is one of the carols sung at the end of A Charlie Brown Christmas, where the children gather around Charlie Brown’s little tree and sing the hymn together.
