Measures 1-23 introduce repeated lower broken-chord figures in 12/8, with an upper melody in octaves beginning at measure 2. Long notes and shorter replies shape the melody as the lower figures continue through changing harmonies.

Measures 24-56 move the broken-chord figures into the upper part while the lower part takes the longer melodic notes and chordal replies. Measures 57-70 bring flowing figures into both parts, followed by matching descending lines and a pause.

Measures 71-110 return to the upper octave melody and lower broken chords. From measure 93, longer descending upper figures extend the texture above the continuing lower pattern. The figures gradually settle into the slower closing bars and the final held chord.
