Marked Moderato, the Walze en Canon opens with an upbeat and a chromatic sixteenth-note figure in the upper part. The lower part echoes that figure from m. 3, interweaving it with the upper part’s shorter replies and accents through m. 16. Measures 17–24 develop the exchange in overlapping running lines, and mm. 25–40 recall the opening canon with a fuller lower-part texture before fin. The Trio in mm. 41–48 places a broader upper melody above held inner notes and bass replies. A dolce canonic passage in mm. 49–56 passes the running figure between the hands and rises through a crescendo; mm. 57–64 return to the earlier Trio material and diminish into the close before Da Capo through fin.
