Fantasy Dance is a brief, restless miniature driven by sudden accents and quick changes of register. Its opening triplets dart between the hands, giving the music a lively, unpredictable edge.
A repeated opening section trades ascending fragments before landing on clipped chords. The contrasting passage sets short, offbeat right-hand pairs above a smoother bass line, swelling and receding through chromatic harmonies. Both ideas return, and the final version of the quieter passage tapers into a low closing note.
Interesting fact: the two main textures are distinguished not only by rhythm but also by pedal markings, with the returning opening marked without pedal and the contrasting passage with pedal.
