Harvest Song is a bright A-major miniature with a lilting 6/8 pulse and an openly joyful character. Rising melodic gestures, full harmonies, and little ornaments give its opening the sound of an exuberant song.
The first repeated section balances upward phrases with gently falling answers. A softer second section introduces more detached notes and grace-note figures, followed by tied tones and a gradual return of the opening idea. A brief slowing near the end broadens the final phrase before the original motion resumes.
Interesting fact: the opening instruction, Con espressione gioiosa, explicitly asks for joyful expression, matching the tune's upward-reaching shape.
