Measures 1–10 set a long upper melody over a repeated, flowing broken-note figure. Its accents and harmony darken the C-major opening, then the opening phrase returns. Measures 11–20 keep the figure beneath a lower, quieter melodic strand and gradually increase the motion. In measures 21–30 the upper line rises into a fuller, more impassioned passage before settling back into the earlier texture. Measures 31–34 recall the opening phrase, and measures 35–38 turn its flowing notes into faster rising figures. Sustained trills and widely spaced chords bring the music to a quiet close in measures 39–42.
