A singing melody floats above gently rocking inner figures and widely spaced bass tones. The inner motion passes between the hands, sometimes rising across the staves to meet the melody, while pedal joins the long tones into a smooth stream. Chromatic touches and soft swells colour the repeated phrases. Near the close the melody broadens into fuller chords, then a held final harmony settles over a low bass arrival.
